Film and Discussion: The Guestworker

  • Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum 1901 Fort Place Southeast Washington, DC, 20020 United States (map)

This engaging documentary chronicles the life of Candelario, a seasonal farm worker who has been going between Mexico and the United States for 40 years harvesting crops and trying to provide for his family. Without benefits, without retirement, he battles against the elements, his own age, and the backbreaking work.  Ciro Parascandola and Lauren Berstein from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) will facilitate the post-film discussion and explain how the federal government’s H2-A Visa and guest worker program operates.
