DISRUPTIVE INDUSTRIES: THE GIG AND SHARING ECONOMIES

  • WeWork Dupont Circle 1875 Connecticut Avenue NW Washington, DC

Local economies across the nation are experiencing disruption from two distinct yet overlapping emerging trends: the “gig economy” and the “sharing economy.” The gig economy is characterized by worker being hired for a single project or task, often through a digital marketplace, to work on demand. The sharing economy is characterized as economy activity facilitated by online transactions, often via platforms that enable peer-to-peer interaction. How are these industries playing out in DC? What opportunities and challenges do they pose for inclusive economic growth here? What can we do collectively to leverage the opportunities and mitigate the challenges?

This event will feature a panel discussion followed by audience Q+A and a reception. It will bring together entrepreneurs, government representatives, scholars, legal experts, investors, and interested others.
